Responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory and Strategy:
- Provide expert legal advice to the senior management and board of directors on a range of matters including regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and disputes.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate legal risks for FESCO and guide the company through legal challenges.
- Contracts and Agreements:
- Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts and agreements, ensuring they are legally sound and in the best interest of the company.
- Manage the execution of agreements with external parties including suppliers, contractors, and government entities.
- Dispute Resolution:
- Represent FESCO in legal proceedings and disputes, ensuring timely and effective resolution of any issues.
- Coordinate with external lawyers and consultants when necessary.
- Compliance Management:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local and international laws and regulations.
- Monitor changes in legal frameworks and advise on necessary adjustments to the company’s operations.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead the legal department, managing and mentoring a team of legal professionals.
- Establish processes and procedures to ensure effective legal support across all departments of the company.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all legal matters and report to senior management on key issues.
- Ensure all legal documentation is filed appropriately and in line with company policies.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university is required.
- Additional qualifications, such as an LLM or legal certifications, will be an advantage.
- Experience:
- At least 10 years of experience in a legal role, with a proven track record in corporate or government legal affairs.
- Experience in handling regulatory matters, corporate governance, and dispute resolution.
- Skills:
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the regulatory environment related to utilities and public sector organizations.
